Taken from Ark Restaurant near the Shanghai Grand Cinema when I had dinner with R and L.
If you are hosting visitors from overseas, this is a good option as it gives them a taste of "old Shanghai". This restuarant is located beside the iconic Grand Cinema and gives a good view of the city from its alfresco area.
Details of the resturant can be found here:
I have been hearing from chatters here and there that the costs of hiring in China and not to mention, Shanghai, is no longer competitive.
Many factories, for example are relocating from third tier cities in China to Vietnam, Cambodia and even Indonesia.
Just then, I went with Rose for a cup of tea at Cafe Tilma (to find it completely revamped) staffed by waitspersons from the Phlippines.
Hmm, increasing costs of hiring, no doubt.
Urban Thai was launched in 2011 by a mother-daughter duo, Mummy and Shahla.
Mummy is their beloved Thai chef. She succeeds in creating everyday a familiar atmosphere in their cosy restaurant.
All her recipes are straight from Thailand. She brings the best Pad Thai, green and red curries, crabs, Pad Si Ew to the people of Shanghai.
Everything is fresh in there and they cautiously choose all ingredients.
All of this is combined to a very fine selections of great but affordable wines as well as some signature drinks like the Bangkok breezer or the Thai Iced Tea.
Be sure to visit them at:
938 Changle Lu, near Wulumuqi Lu, Jing An, Shanghai
11am to 10pm
Have you been to Cool Docks yet ?
Cool Docks is one of the more recent venue carved to inject even more vibrancy and night life to the already saturated entertainment scene in Shanghai.
The name Cool Docks is a misnomer, for the Chinese name is actually "老码头“, which translates into the term, "old pier". Said to be oldest pier, even before the very renowned, The Bund, Cool Docks is about twenty minutes walk from Nanjing East Road.
Let me show you some photos from my trip there:
Walking past Jin Hui Road, I realised that one of my favourite cafe in Shanghai has changed name. From "Dio Cafe" to "LTC Coffee".
Anyone been there before?
You can look at a post I wrote about the cafe 5 years ago in 2007 here.
