Considering we no longer live in Shanghai, both Sabrina and I feel that we cannot effectively write about Shanghai and our experiences to continue giving our readers the articles they are interested in.
As a result we discussed many options which included continuing to write, shutting it down, giving it someone and selling.
As much as we would love to keep writing, as we did put a lot of time and effort into Mad About Shanghai, we just feel that it would cause a long a slow death with regular readers slowly switching off because we don't have our finger on the pulse any longer. We didn't really want to see all that love and effort atrophy.
Shutting it down was a good option - but again, a sad one. Considering we have a strong readership, a good number of subscribers and we rank well in Google etc for many search terms, we think that it would be wasteful to just shut it down.
So that left either giving it away or selling it.
Personally we both believe that something that is given for free is often not valued as much by the receiver as something they have paid for - as such, Mad About Shanghai is now officially for sale - on EBay.
Really the sale part is just a bit of fun, and I must admit that I am really quite curious as to whether you can sell a blog on EBay.
If you are interested, you can see the EBay listing here. All the relevant information and stats are available on the EBay listing.
Sabrina & I have just started a new blog that is more in tune with our current life, and is not restricted to just a particular city, so when we move again, we don't face this same problem. So for those of you that are interested in what we are doing, you can see our views of the world at The World of Ying & Brad. Here we will write about life in Manly and Sydney, as well as our observations on Shanghai, China and the interaction of the cultures.
We hope you will stay reading Mad About Shanghai to see how the EBay sale turns out and see who the lovely person is that will be your host after we formally hand over the reins.
Thanks for your support and comments over the past 18 months.

I thought it would be a good idea to share what camera gear I use. I use a Canon EOS500D with EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM zoom lens.

So sorry to hear you'll not be continuing this yourselves, its been a great source of entertainment and resources for myself and I dare say many others. I'm moving to Shanghai in Feb 2007 to marry my Chinese gf and work for several years. My fiancée and I have considered starting something similar to give another perspective on Shanghai from a British/Chinese point of view. Well best of wishes for the future, We will certainly be checking out your new blog.

I have a friend who travels to Shanghai fairly often. A remark he made once stuck....once, ambling along in the city, he came to where some workmen were busy putting up a structure; he turned a corner, came back to the same spot not long after, and failed to recognize the place! It had changed almost beyond recognition.
