According to the Shanghai Daily today, migrants to Shanghai have increased the official population by 11% in 2005 to a total of 17.78 million (only 13.4 million have permits to live in Shanghai).
The other amazing information they discuss is about the ageing population (Shanghai has a similar baby boom population to much of the West). In Shanghai alone the government intends to start adding 10,000 beds per year for the next 20 years for retirement and nursing homes to meet the demand!
Huge numbers.

I thought it would be a good idea to share what camera gear I use. I shoot (sometimes) with a Canon EOS350D with standard EF-S 18-55 mm f/3.5-5.6 II lens and EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM zoom lens.
